what is the meaning of the pink stamp with characters on chinese porcelain ware?
I have a beautifully decorated chinese porcelain bowl with rim what is the pink stamp with characters on it on the bottom, what does it mean? It also has a number.
Usually this is the craftsman's name chop in red ink. Faded, diluted or covered with a thin glaze the red would look pink.
I lived in Taiwan and then Hong Kong and there are stalls all over the place to make name chops. I had one given to me as a present.
If you look at Chinese art or craft you will notice them and some have more than 1. The National Palace Gallery in Taiwan has many examples.
The number is probably an issue number.
