End of the Appalachian Trail - Baxter State Park?
A friend is hiking the West Virginia-Maine leg of the Appalachian Trail this summer...starting next week and wrapping up in mid-August at Baxter State Park, ME. I promised that I would drive up from Boston to get him if he calls from BSP, but all the information on the park is terrible. Anyone who knows that area or has completed the hike have a suggestion on a good meeting point in the park? Is the visitors center at the southern gate the best bet, or is there another convenient spot to drive to?
Thanks for any help!
Wow .You still haven't gotten an answer for this
Here's the deal w /BSP: The rangers have the authority to close the mountain to climbing on any given day .What that means to you is that it's going to be a bit difficult to pre-plan the exact day that your friend will need to be pcked up.Your solution therefor is to have him call you when he gets within a day of BSP and then from Katahdin Stream CG on the day that he can actually climb Katahdin
If you leave Boston at the same time that he leaves KSCG you guys should both arrive at KSCG within 2 hours of each other
One word of caution:
The road going up to KSCG -the left fork -is made of dirt and despite it being dry, treat it like you were drivng on snow
