Original Wood

I have old fashioned wood floors in my house...how can I find out what type of wood was used to make these?
I may have to have part of them replaced because of water damage, and I want the original wood used...also need advice on sanding and refinishing them. These are the narrow boards that were used. Is it safe to use wood bleach on them, and what would be the best way to restore original color tone.
Do NOT use wood bleach on them! They best way to restore their natural color is too buy an electric sander (or borrow one -- sanding by hand is way too hard) Then sand your entire floor enough to get off all the damage and you start to see normal wood. Next, you will need to stain/paint them. Hiring some one to do this step would be best. There is also I think a top coat that you're suppossed to put on. When you go to the hardware/paint store to get your stain, ask what you should use.
