colored mouth rinse - Plaque highlighter?

Is there a safe alternative to the little colored tablets we used to get as a kid that showed us what plaque was still left on our teeth after brushing?

My kids were using the new rinse they were selling untill it got recalled and it really did seem to help. Is there something I can mix up at home that won't discolor anything long term?

Well, let's see. Oral B makes those Plaque Disclosing Tablets that dye the plaque on the teeth a pink color. But they are messy. Especially if you have kids or a white sink (or shirt in my case), Oral Kare makes a plaque disclosing toothpaste, same pink color. DISCLOSE came up with swabs (like a Q-tip) that you apply directly on to the tooth (less messy, an improvement). My #1 choice is Plak-Check by Sunstar Butler. It is STAIN FREE! Yes, you read correctly. How does it work you ask? Well, again there is a swab with built in safe solutions that you wipe on your teeth. Then the kit comes with a blue light that you shine on your teeth and VOILA! you can see where all the plaque has been left behind. This has been fun for me and for kids. As for mixing up stuff at home, i have no idea.
