How can I turn a free standing clay sculpture into a relief?
A while back I made a life size bust out of clay. It was fired, but later broke so that only the front of the face is left. I would like to work this into a relief, but I am unsure how to do it. What material should I use? If I want to mount it on the wall, I don't want to add too much weight, since the clay is already pretty heavy. I would appreciate any suggestions!
Make a plaster of Paris mold from the existing piece. Once the plaster is dried out ,roll out a slab of clay and press the clay into the mold. Allow the clay to dry to a "leather -hard" state,it should sparate from the mold at this point. With this it should than be easy to hand-build your relief using additional clay.
