Im translating a spiritual book from nepali to english and the writer has written it in a very simple languag?
-e. i have realized that it is very difficult, specially because of its simplicity.
after translating every chapter i read it and it always feels that it has lost its life. Any suggestions, please help. i am not translating this book for money.
I suggest you translate it as near as possible to the original! Never mind filling it out with flowery bits, the reader will not want your interpretation but a very close translation of the original!!
Look at the bible full of edited cra* meaningless, you can interpret the bible to mean anything you want it to mean, its been translated and edited so many times that even the tiny bits that may have once made sense are now just meaningless!!
If you want to write a work of complete fiction, then by all means use this Nepali book as a guide line and base your novel on it, no problem there!
But if you are translating leave your own ideas out of it!!.
I read an English translation of the Koran which was very well done, the translator hadn't added any opinions of his own and I enjoyed working my own way through it.
This is not to say that I believe a word of it, but the translator left that choice to me he didn't add his thoughts to the subject!!
Good luck with your task!!
